Kids Chat God’s Spirit is a very unique book with an incredibly inspired beginning. Several years ago, I, Kristin Gembala, had a friend whose husband was fighting cancer. One day in conversation, my friend told me that every night before bed, their family would light a candle and pray together. Each family member would pick someone to pray for. Imagine that, diagnosed with a terminal illness and praying for someone else! She had told me they were praying for my daughter who also has an illness. Not terminal, but serious. My family decided that we should do the same thing for others.
Geoff and I knew that if they could pray for us, think how many others our family, gathered together could pray for! We started our “nightly-family” devotional. It was amazing to see how our children grew in prayer and how they blessed so many others through their prayers. What sweet prayers children pray! So, the quest began, to pray for others before bed, but also to talk about something meaningful as well. Our children were ages 2-9 at the time and so we scoured every bookstore to find something age appropriate to cover as a family devotional every night. Needless to say, there wasn’t anything that met our needs. Just a few scripture cards and that was it. Then the idea for the book came.
Let’s write a book for families with children ages 2 and up, so that before bed, one lesson could be covered and not only could they pray together, but “grow” together. The idea was born, God led us to create, Kids Chat God’s Spirit. Kristin then set out to find a co-author who also shared the same values and life experiences. Patti Seacrist came on board and then the book became reality!
Kids Chat God’s Spirit is a “night-stand” book. It is designed to sit on a child’s nightstand so it can be easily picked up at night, when children give their parents crucial information about their day. The book is designed to read one page per night with each page taking 2-5 minutes. This gives busy families a chance to talk about what is important in their lives and "grow" together.
The book is exactly what it says – Kids Chat with their parents while God’s Spirit moves through them.
It is just as He wished.
