Dates on a Dime: 10 fun dates for money-conscience couples
Everybody wants a little spice in their marriage. But with talk of recession in the past few
months, romance can be a little strained. Between the long hours spent at work and a shortage of
extra money, it is no wonder romance is feeling the pinch. Finding SIMPLE, QUICK ways to
grow together and improve the relationship is important. We have four children, two businesses
and don’t forget the dog! We are BUSY! Everyone is busy!
So, the next time you think there is too much month at the end of the money, consider these 10
fun dates for savings-conscience couples, and recession proof your relationship:
1) Think simple and start at home. Get out your old family movies, pop some pop corn
and grab a soda. Less is more here. Why not talk about how lucky you are and how
many things you have to be thankful for? What did we accomplish in the last decade and
what do we want to accomplish in the next decade? Write them down and place them
some where you will see them frequently.
2) Make it a night at home. Bring out your competitive side with a board game! Get the
family together for family game night. Pull out your favorite board game; add your
favorite food, and BAM! You have a great evening in store. Yahtzee anyone?
3) Go outside: Nature lovers get excited! Watch the sunset or grab a blanket after the kids
have gone to bed and gaze at the stars. What’s more romantic than an evening of star
gazing and talking for hours?
4) Take advantage of your community. Between the zoo, botanical gardens, science centers,
parks, trails, city pools, tennis courts, and basketball courts, you can do anything.
Whether you’re in the city or the suburbs, it’s there for the taking! Check out your local
community center or visitor’s center for fun ideas.
5) Go for a ride: Don’t let that bike get rusty any longer! Grab some WD-40, your spouse
and go. Be fit, feel the wind in your hair and most importantly be together.
6) Stroll the mall: great for the young and young at heart! You can grab something small to
eat, be fully entertained by people watching and get exercise WHILE your kids can be as
loud as they want to. There have been days in our life that mall strolling was the
highlight to our day, because we were together. Give it a try!
7) Book it. Books with companion movies are great because you can watch the movie
together afterwards and it’s free. I remember being newly married and setting a goal of
readingGone with the Wind. It took months to read in between working 80 hours a week
at my first teaching position. My goal: to make my husband watch the movie with me.
And he did. Of course, it meant way more to me than him, but we did it together.
8) Take a walk – be sure to hold hands. Walk around your neighborhood or go to your
favorite park. Enjoy the weather, talk about life and make memories.
9) Dream together. By this, we don’t mean just sleep, but go do and experience the things
you dream of. Go look at that car, take a tour of houses you can’t afford or check out the
latest trends for your home at Home Depot. Those who dream together, stay together.
10) Don’t READ Couples Chat, USE Couples Chat. This book is designed as an affordable,
interactive conversation starter that will empower and strengthen your relationship. Why
not spend a little free time, together, working on you? Plus, didn’t your teachers always
tell you two minds are better than one?
You know the drill: get up in the morning, kiss your spouse goodbye, go to work, pick up the
kids, kiss your spouse goodnight, repeat. Today’s modern couples are busy, but don’t let that be
your excuse to miss out on your relationship. Take some time for each other and be thankful for
all you have been given. Don’t let too much month at the end of the money get in the way of you
and your significant other!
